Summer chalets in Arvieux
Chalets de Clapeyto (2300 m)
The Clapeyto chalets are the summer cottages of Brunissard and La Chalp in Arvieux.
An estive chalet is a farm used during the summer, at altitude, in the estives where the herds are brought. During haymaking in July, hay was stored in these chalets and not brought down until October.
While the parents were busy with the hard work in the fields ("seven months of winter, five months of hell" goes the saying), the children were sent "up the mountain" with the cows, under the care of the grandmothers.

Furfande chalets (2300 m)

As at Clapeyto, all these chalets were used to store hay.
Furfande and its cottages have been listed in the Hautes-Alpes inventory of natural monuments and picturesque sites since 2001.
To play boules on a slope, the local tradition is to use"boules carrées" (square balls), in fact cubes. A championship is still held every year during the Furfande festival.
The REFUGE de FURFANDE will be a real reward for your hikes.
